BIOPHILIA
In my course, Digital Fabrication Lab, we were challenged to create bioliphic designs using nature- based materials. I designed and constructed this partial living wall, named, Biophilia. Biophilia means, "love of life" or, "love of living things."
A Bioliphic Design
Challenge:
Create a bioliphic design that successfully drives humans towards nature
Industrial and Bioliphic Design
Tools: Adobe Illustrator and Universal PLS 6.150D Laser Cutter
Solution:
Create a partial living wall that is small enough for mobility, limits the use of real plants, and successfully draws appreciation to living things
IN ACTION
Biophilia is placed on a grey wall to enhance the life it radiates.

The materials used to construct this piece was pinewood, moss, and adhesive glue

SKETCH
These were the sketches sent to the laser cutter. Black strokes engrave the wood depending on the weight and red strokes of .001 cut.

RESEARCH
According to the Journal of Environmental Psychology (2019), exposure to natural elements can reduce stress by 30%-60%.

Terrapin Bright Green (2014) "The Economics of Biophilia," shared their findings of benefits. There's a 6%-15% increase in productivity and a 10%-25% boost in cognitive function from biophilic elements.

In conclusion, this project was a joy throughout the whole journey and also changed my perspective on design.
